What is Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy (BCST)?

The BCST is a holistic non-manipulative touch therapy. This therapy focuses on the health expressed in the body and its ability to self-heal. BCS has been established by Dr. William Sutherland, whose explorations began with the biomechanical model of osteopathy and evolved into an intense study of intrinsic healing. His focus was on observations and facilitation of the internal healing forces without the application of a blind force from without.

What is the biodynamic approach?

The biodynamic approach (as opposed to the bio-mechanical approach) relies upon the client’s intrinsic healing forces and not on the direct tissue manipulation (such as in a massage or a chiropractic treatment). During a BCS session, the therapist applies neutral, informed touch, listening to the client’s body’s innate intelligence and facilitating a biodynamic realignment. The realignment is possible due to the therapist’s interaction with the client’s autonomic nervous system. The natural realignment lessens the structural strain so that the client’s body can function at its more optimal level.

Is BCS a form of energy work?

All bodywork is energy work, since human interactions, especially touch involve energy by engaging the biological electromagnetic field. Every tissue in our bodies emanates this bio-electric field. We respond to each other energetically, whether we are aware of it or not. This form of human interaction is not the focus of the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, hence I do not see it as “energy work”. BCS mainly involves attention to the physical body and is based on physical sensations, although it includes attention to the non-physical and energetic dimensions of our being.
